1. Enlarge your design to a suitable scale so it's not too fiddly (these 3 little ones I did were A4), then trace the design onto a piece of board, using carbon paper.

2. Cut up ceramic tiles of various colours using a tile cutter, into the appropriate sizes you need (some people are very planned about this and work out all the colours before hand, but I am not!)

3. Adhere the tile pieces using suitable glue (eg tile adhesive). I usually do the animal first, then the border, and then fill in the background bits around the animal, working from the animal out towards the border.

4. When the tiles are firmly adhered (at least 1 day), grout the whole thing, using ordinary tile grout (a light-ish colour is best, eg white or grey)

5. When the grout has dried, clean up the tiles, then paint the tile grout the colours you want.

And that's it!
