"Your enthusiasm for what you do was totally inspiring. The way you took drawing back to basics, to show how expression can be easily drawn with a few simple steps and how to start all characters from a basic ‘snowman’ starting point, gave the children simple tools to be able to start their drawings from. Explaining the process of making a book from start to finish and allowing us to see your work at every stage close up was a real treat. I think the highlight for us was your demonstration of the angle of limbs when a character is moving! My two daughters have been drawing non stop since the weekend! I think they will never draw a ‘straight’ leg again! Thank you."

Storytelling and Book Illustration 27 February 2012
"The Berkshire Education Library Service spent a fabulous day with Lynne when 10 primary schools from throughout the Thames Valley joined us for a very lively storytelling and drawing session in the morning and a fascinating book illustration talk in the afternoon. The children were really inspired by her illustrations and had lots of perceptive questions about her work. The comment that will most remain with me was from a staff member in a Reading special school who said about one 8 year old pupil "I've never seen him draw before..." It was a memorable day for everyone. "

She kept the groups enthralled despite the disparate ages of the children, from toddlers to teens and even the parents. • Off The Shelf Festival of Writing and Reading

  We have employed Lynne Chapman for a variety of events and workshops for the Off The Shelf festival over the past 5 years. Without exception every event has been excellent - well organised, interesting, fun, educational and well presented.
  
  Lynne's books are beautiful. Her workshops and events for us have been aimed at a wide range of ages, from stories and puppet making for 3 - 5 year olds, to an illustration workshop for 14 years - adults.

  As part of our student development, the college embarked on a project linked to the Creative Digital Industries, employing people from industry currently working in creative fields where they use digital media as part of what they do. Lynne Chapman was employed to give seminars to Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 students.
  
  Throughout the whole exercise, Lynne was totally professional, well prepared, organised and completely in tune with what she was required to deliver to the groups in question. The resulting seminars were informative, amusing and engaging, and the students felt at their ease to ask questions. In fact, the whole presentation was a real eye opener for the students and staff alike and we were impressed by the sheer quality and quantity of her portfolio.
  
  Many of the students, who were making career choices, benefited from being able to talk to someone who is clearly talented and working within the design industry. It gave them the opportunity to look at earning potential, as well as the possible pitfalls, in a very honest question & answer situation.
  
  The whole event turned out to be extremely useful, enjoyable and inspirational for the students, and we would have no hesitation in employing Lynne again, should the opportunity arise.

• The Shire Hall Gallery

  Lynne Chapman led a day of children's workshops in July 2005 at the Shire Hall Gallery in Stafford, to compliment the exhibition we ran at the time about storytelling and visual art, entitled 'Once Upon a Time'.
  
  The workshop was for a group of 10 children aged between 8 and 12, entitled 'Becoming a Picture Book Illustrator'. They discussed illustrations and stories and then went on to make their own illustration helped by Lynne. We repeated the 2 hour session in the morning and afternoon.
  
  We had great feedback from the children about their experience and some children produced some really lovely work in a very short time. Lynne was well prepared and able to communicate with the children well. She was very professional to work with. Information and communication was great before the workshop so that I felt confident that it would be a success.

• Bookstart/Books for Babies

  I have known Lynne for three years and she has taken part in many activities and events for Sheffield Libraries Archives and Information. These activities have included story telling, illustrating (on demand!), designing puppets for children to make, and using her own props and costumes. Lynne has taken part in Books for Babies / Bookstart events for families, nursery groups and primary school visits to community libraries.
  
  All these projects have been very successful and libraries have received very positive feedback from them. Children and adults respond very well to her style.
  
  I am very pleased to recommend Lynne to work with Schools and I hope there will be more opportunities to work with Lynne in the future.

• Oundle School

  Lynne Chapman came to Oundle School as part of a week of author visits and gave a fascinating presentation to the Fourth Form on the life of a children's picture book from the germ of an idea to an international print run. The talk was enlivened by her brightly coloured and humorous illustrations, and provided an illuminating insight into the issues that confront people who work on a freelance basis and who are subject to the whims of the global market place.
  
  Pupils and Staff were unanimous when they said how much they enjoyed her talk, which would be suitable for a wide range of age groups.
  
  Lynne then led two one and a half hour workshops, in which pupils imbued inanimate objects with human personalities and characteristics in true picture-book style. Pupils were completely engaged in their tasks and produced fun and creative illustrations using a collage technique.
  
  We would highly recommend to any school a visit by Lynne Chapman.
