Storytellings: St Patrick’s Primary School, Sheffield June 6th 2018

“We have just had the most WONDERFUL day at school and are thrilled we booked Lynne to come and work with our children today.

Lynne arrived with oodles of energy and smiles. She began with a storytelling session, which she did with passion and enthusiasm. the kids and parents loved it. She then worked in our different classrooms all day and taught us how to be illustrators. What my children achieved after her lively and creative demonstrations and teaching was amazing and has been a great catalyst for more work to stem from it.

Both were very inspiring for all with the children producing some excellent work and being inspired to carry on drawing. One school has already produced ebough drawings from the workshop to put into a book which we are working to produce for next year. “Lynne’s talks aren’t just for children! She entertained and stimulated our grownups’ art group for two hours with an illustrated talk about the part sketching has played in her artist’s life. With hints and tips on how to make big art in a small sketchbook out there in the busy wide world, she also showed how trying a new medium can loosen one’s style. The excitement and stimulation in the group was palpable. Members left the talk speculating on how we could include more sketchbook work, particularly outdoor sketching, in the group’s activities–to follow Lynne’s example and develop the Sketchbook Habit.”

The way you took drawing back to basics, to show how expression can be easily drawn with a few simple steps and how to start all characters from a basic ‘snowman’ starting point, gave the children simple tools to be able to start their drawings from. Explaining the process of making a book from start to finish and allowing us to see your work at every stage close up was a real treat. I think the highlight for us was your demonstration of the angle of limbs when a character is moving! My two daughters have been drawing non stop since the weekend! “The Berkshire Education Library Service spent a fabulous day with Lynne when 10 primary schools from throughout the Thames Valley joined us for a very lively storytelling and drawing session in the morning and a fascinating book illustration talk in the afternoon. The children were really inspired by her illustrations and had lots of perceptive questions about her work. The comment that will most remain with me was from a staff member in a Reading special school who said about one 8 year old pupil “I’ve never seen him draw before…” It was a memorable day for everyone. “
