Storytellings: St Patrick’s Primary School, Sheffield June 6th 2018

“We have just had the most WONDERFUL day at school and are thrilled we booked Lynne to come and work with our children today.

Lynne arrived with oodles of energy and smiles. She began with a storytelling session, which she did with passion and enthusiasm. the kids and parents loved it. She then worked in our different classrooms all day and taught us how to be illustrators. What my children achieved after her lively and creative demonstrations and teaching was amazing and has been a great catalyst for more work to stem from it.

I would highly recommend any school to book Lynne for a visit! We certainly will be booking her again for next year. Thank you Lynne!!” Mrs Craig, FS2 / Y1 teacher

Cavendish Primary, with Manchester Library Service Oct 5th 2017
“All the pupils had a fantastic day with Lynne. Foundation and KS1 had brilliant storytellings and Lynne left them some signed illustrations to keep. They even got to help her invent their own monster! Children in KS2, who had completed the Summer Reading Challenge, were rewarded with a drawing workshop with Lynne. They all really enjoyed learning how to give characters different emotions using facial expressions and body language, as well as seeing some of Lynne’s original artworks. They asked some very interesting questions and received very knowledgeable answers. Thank you Lynne!” Jodie Osborne, Manchester Libraries

Illustrating and writing workshops at Tickhill Estfeld Primary School, Doncaster Wednesday 1st March 2017
“We had a fabulous day when Lynne visited school. All pupils from Reception Class to Year 6 had the opportunity to work with Lynne. Our older pupils found her presentation on her work absorbing and it really did give an insight into the work of illustrators and authors and how the two work together. The illustration workshops inspired some excellent work by our pupils. Lynne really can enthuse the pupils; her love of drawing is obvious and infectious. We are hopeful that Lynne’s visit may inspire some of our pupils to consider a career in drawing or illustrating in some form. Most telling was the number of parents who have made positive comments about the visit based on what their children have told them – they loved the day and couldn’t wait to tell their parents about it. Many thanks to Lynne – we hope to see you again soon and would certainly recommend you to other schools. “

“We held two drawing workshops with Lynne – one at the University of Central lancashire wth a primary school and one at Hutton Grammar School. Both were very inspiring for all with the children producing some excellent work and being inspired to carry on drawing. I have no doubt that some of the children have found a love of drawing which will shape the directon of their future. What a fabulous thing to say you have done in a day\’s work! One school has already produced ebough drawings from the workshop to put into a book which we are working to produce for next year. Lynne is a super energetic, inspiring and talented teacher as well as illustrator/ writer. I can\’t recommend her enough!”

Lynne was great with the pupils too, always answering questions or giving advice on their drawings. Our story time with Pre-School to Year 2 was a huge success and great fun. The pupils said she was our best author visit ever! I cannot recommend Lynne enough as the day was just brilliant and she was so accommodating before, during and after the event. Everyone went away bubbling and buzzing from the weekend, and I think the general consensus was “We love Lynne!” Your story making workshops were spot on for both writers and illustrators, and I think everyone felt privileged to have time to chat with such a passionate and experienced children’s book illustrator – and such an inspiring and generous person! I’m already getting some “official” feedback in, (all positive) which includes: “Lynne was an excellent one-to-one mentor, she really helped to explain things, give feedback re the illustrations and ask relevant questions about my texts. Your lecture was a great success – well received and remembered (I ran a fun quiz later in the week and the children gave full and accurate answers about you, the role of the illustrator and the process of getting a book published. You would have been proud). The storytelling sessions too were much enjoyed. All the children were happily and fully engaged – even the littlest ones at the end of the day. No mean feat! Anacondas are cropping up everywhere. Thank you for such a fruitful day!”

Talk about keeping and using Sketchbooks for the Hallam Art Group 18 September 2014
“Lynne’s talks aren’t just for children! She entertained and stimulated our grownups’ art group for two hours with an illustrated talk about the part sketching has played in her artist’s life. With hints and tips on how to make big art in a small sketchbook out there in the busy wide world, she also showed how trying a new medium can loosen one’s style. The excitement and stimulation in the group was palpable. Members left the talk speculating on how we could include more sketchbook work, particularly outdoor sketching, in the group’s activities–to follow Lynne’s example and develop the Sketchbook Habit.”

“”Lynne provided an engaging and interactive session, using her big and bold illustrations as a springboard for a new approach to writing. Children and staff alike, tried new ways to create characters and develop stories based on their own drawings. It motivated some of our more reluctant writers in surprising ways and gave staff another skill set in their writing tool kit. Importantly it was also aspirational and great fun to work with such an enthusiastic and warm published illustrator – highly recommended!” “

As school finances are tight, this was a big decision…and we are so glad we made it. The children were absolutely captivated from start to finish, as were the staff. I think Lynne has gained a new army of fans! Lynne is clearly a very talented artist, but the way she inspired the children was equally impressive. We would highly recommend her. Many thanks Lynne!”

    Linton Children’s Festival 13th May 2012
“Your enthusiasm for what you do was totally inspiring. The way you took drawing back to basics, to show how expression can be easily drawn with a few simple steps and how to start all characters from a basic ‘snowman’ starting point, gave the children simple tools to be able to start their drawings from. Explaining the process of making a book from start to finish and allowing us to see your work at every stage close up was a real treat. I think the highlight for us was your demonstration of the angle of limbs when a character is moving! My two daughters have been drawing non stop since the weekend! I think they will never draw a ‘straight’ leg again! Thank you.”
